AO Sponsors - Next Steps

The 500+ AO Sponsors in NED will be the first to receive the new HHS ID Badge.  To accommodate such large numbers, the HSPD-12 Program Office and DPSAC plan to process individuals in groups of fifty beginning the week of April 27, 2009.  A new group of AO Sponsors will kick-off each week and continue throughout the summer, concluding in mid-to-late July.  AOs will be notified via e-mail when their group is scheduled to begin.  The process for getting a new HHS ID Badge consists of three distinct phases:

  1. Pre-enrollment – In the first phase, the NED Team will “force” the renewal of your current NIH ID Badge (regardless of its expiration date).  You will be required to run your badge renewal task and be sponsored for a new HHS ID Badge.  Please note that you cannot run your own sponsorship task in NED.  You must have another AO Sponsor in your IC do this for you.

Your next step is to schedule an enrollment appointment.  Do not schedule your appointment with DPSAC.  The HSPD-12 Program Office will notify you on how to schedule an enrollment appointment.

  2. Enrollment – In the second phase, you will be required to have a new set of fingerprints and photograph captured.  If you have not already completed the required background investigation, DPSAC will provide you with the necessary forms to complete.  It is extremely important that you do not miss your enrollment appointment as there are limited appointment times available!

  3.  Issuance – In the third and final phase, you will be required to schedule a badge issuance appointment to receive your new HHS ID Badge.  Again, do not schedule your appointment with DPSAC.  You will be notified how to schedule your badge issuance appointment.  At your appointment, you will be issued a new NIH Badge along with your new HHS ID  Badge. You will also receive a USB smart card reader to have installed on your work computer. The IT staff in each IC will be briefed on how to install the smart card readers
